Patine's goal is to design a full women's wardrobe that fits with the environmental and social challenges of our world. Their clothes are made in Europe, and they don't follow traditional collections or seasons. Instead, they release each new item in limited quantities through a pre-order system.
Today, Patine is setting up an exclusive pop-up shop at Centre Commercial from June 27th to July 6th.
Meet with Charlotte Dereux, founder of the brand.

What is the story behind the brand? How did it all start?
CHARLOTTE DEREUX: The Patine adventure started almost seven years ago with just a simple t-shirt and then we expanded the range. Each year, we developed new models and new materials to grow this ideal wardrobe. I started Patine with a dramatic statement: on one hand, I had always dreamed of starting my own brand, and on the other hand, I had undergone an ecological awakening, and the two did not seem compatible to me. It is from this observation that Patine was born, a brand that is precisely on the edge between fashion and ecology.
How do you work on your collections, what is your creative process?
CHARLOTTE DEREUX: I think all brands have their own way of trying to innovate. Our formula is to make clothes with very comfortable cuts and from solid and easy-to-maintain materials. What I want with Patine is to offer pieces that one can get attached to and that make you want to pick from your wardrobe. We are very demanding in terms of quality, durability, and utility. We want to ensure that a t-shirt does not twist, that a pair of jeans ages well over time, that a sweatshirt is thick and does not pill, for example, which involves repeated technical tests until perfection is achieved. We spend a lot of time searching for the right materials and conducting these tests. And of course, we work closely with our manufacturers; all our partners are in Europe, which allows us to rigorously monitor our production, create long-term partnerships, and avoid air transport.

What inspires you?
CHARLOTTE DEREUX: I am very inspired by the 80s and 90s because it was a peak moment of creative abundance and at the same time the start of consumer society. I like to revisit that era and delve into it. I am very fond of cinema; I binge-watch series at night. I have been thrifting vintage pieces for a long time; I even went on my honeymoon to Texas 15 years ago just to find cowboy pieces that couldn't be found in Paris, and that passion has never left me. All these inspirations feed the way we construct this wardrobe.
What are your main challenges today and how do you address them?
CHARLOTTE DEREUX: The main challenge was to launch a brand that is well-made and compatible with the ecological challenges of the sector. Now, how can we grow while continuing our commitments? This means inventing new ways to move forward: being rigorous in production, communication, and distribution. Not giving in to the easier, more profitable, or cheaper options, but staying true to our initial methods while growing. Our mission is to invent a new brand model that can combine growth and commitment. For example, in our collection, we have our iconic cap, which took us four years to release. Most caps are made in China, which we did not want. I wanted to make something well-made, so we took the time to source the right materials and find the right partner in Portugal. Today we are very proud of our Patine caps made of 100% organic and recycled cotton in Portugal. For denim, we work with Candiani in Italy; I wanted to find the rigidity of 90s denim, whether for our jeans, shorts, or skirts. I think we have achieved an authentic result with a clean production: ozone washing, regenerative cotton, and recycled cotton.

What can we wish for you in the future?
CHARLOTTE DEREUX: To continue growing and sharing moments with partners like you at Centre Commercial. You are pioneers in well-made fashion, you are not only a place where one feels good but also a model of rigor in sourcing and brands.
